His martial arts ability brought him to the attention of filmmakers, leading to his breakthrough film role in Shaolin Temple (1982). He later became one of the leading stars of Hong Kong and Chinese martial arts cinema, with films such as Once Upon a Time in China (1991) showcasing his wushu technique and fast, controlled screen fighting.

Jet Li's film career spans traditional Chinese martial arts, historical action, wuxia, and modern martial arts films. His combination of athletic ability and precise wushu technique made him one of the most recognizable martial arts stars to emerge from China during the 1980s and 1990s.
