STORY OVERVIEW
After fighting during World War II, former Chinese soldier Jet returns home expecting peace but instead finds his community facing abuse from arrogant foreign soldiers. When violence and humiliation become impossible to ignore, Jet refuses to back down and soon finds himself drawn into a series of dangerous confrontations.
What begins with a challenge in the boxing ring escalates into a bitter struggle against powerful fighters and the ruthless Captain Hans. Jet must rely on his martial arts ability and determination as the conflict builds toward a brutal final showdown.
MARTIAL ARTS HIGHLIGHTS
Born to Defence combines Jet Li's fast, precise kung fu with Western boxing and military-style combat. Fight choreography by Tsui Siu-ming delivers hard-hitting exchanges and memorable battles, including the film's climactic warehouse fight.
WHY COLLECTORS PICK IT
Collectors value Born to Defence as Jet Li's only feature-film directing credit. It also captures Li during an early stage of his career, before his international breakthrough, and offers a more serious martial arts performance than many of his later commercial productions.
HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE
Born to Defence marked Jet Li's directorial debut and remains a distinctive entry in his early Hong Kong career. Its combination of martial arts, boxing, postwar drama, and Li's involvement behind the camera makes it an important title for collectors of his early films.
