Collection: Lau Kar-Leung Movies

Lau Kar-leung was the rare filmmaker who didn’t have to fake authenticity—he lived it. When his movies feel sharper, stricter, and more grounded than the average kung fu picture, that’s because he came out of a real martial arts tradition, not just movie choreography.

He was a master of Hung Ga, taught by his father Lau Cham. That line runs back through Lam Sai-wing to Wong Fei-hung, which is exactly why Lau Kar-leung’s films feel connected to the old heroic kung fu world instead of just borrowing its imagery.

Lau Kar-leung died in 2013, but for a lot of fans he remains the gold standard for “real kung fu on film.”
