The Bloody Fists (1972), also known as Dang Kou Tan (蕩寇灘), is a Hong Kong martial arts film directed and written by Ng See-yuen. Starring Chan Sing, Chen Kuan Tai, Henry Yu Yang, Fong Yau, and San Kuai, the film follows a group of Chinese martial artists defending a rare supply of Dragon Herb from Japanese martial artists. The film features early fight choreography by Yuen Woo-ping and an early appearance by Jackie Chan.
STORY OVERVIEW
A group of Japanese martial artists arrives in a remote Chinese village determined to seize the local supply of Dragon Herb. The villagers and Chinese fighters attempt to protect the valuable herb, but they are repeatedly defeated by the more powerful Japanese opponents.
When fugitive martial artist Jiang Wu Ke learns what is happening, he decides to step in and help. His arrival changes the balance of power and leads to a series of increasingly fierce encounters before he faces the Japanese leader in a final showdown.
MARTIAL ARTS HIGHLIGHTS
The Bloody Fists features early action choreography from Yuen Woo-ping, who also appears briefly in the film. The fights combine traditional Chinese martial arts with karate and hard-hitting hand-to-hand combat, giving the film the rough, physical style associated with early 1970s Hong Kong kung fu.
WHY COLLECTORS PICK IT
Collectors seek out The Bloody Fists for its early Yuen Woo-ping choreography, strong performances from Chan Sing and Chen Kuan Tai, and its place in the rise of independent Hong Kong kung fu filmmaking. Jackie Chan also appears briefly as a policeman.
HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE
