STORY OVERVIEW

Chang Fung is a young man who becomes determined to learn kung fu from Wu Tseng, a drunken beggar with considerable fighting ability. Training under the unpredictable master proves difficult, but Chang gradually develops the skills needed to defend himself and those around him.

Wu Tseng's past eventually catches up with him when a group of fighters comes looking for the old master. Chang is forced to put his training to the test as the conflict spreads to his family and the people closest to him.

MARTIAL ARTS HIGHLIGHTS

Kung Fu Of 8 Drunkards is built around drunken kung fu, with Meng Fei using the style against a succession of opponents. The action features traditional hand-to-hand fighting, training sequences, and the loose movements associated with drunken-style martial arts.

WHY COLLECTORS PICK IT

Fans of old-school kung fu know Kung Fu Of 8 Drunkards for its Wu Ma direction, Meng Fei in the lead, and Chan Sing as one of the film's principal villains. The movie also has the familiar low-budget Hong Kong martial arts feel that makes many independent titles from this period interesting to collectors.

HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE

Released in 1980, Kung Fu Of 8 Drunkards arrived when drunken-style kung fu remained popular following the success of films such as Drunken Master. It is one of several lesser-known martial arts productions from the period built around the style and its distinctive fighting techniques.
