Fist of Fury (1995), also known as Jing Wu Men (精武門 / 精武门), is a Hong Kong martial arts television series produced by Asia Television (ATV). Directed by Benny Chan Muk-sing, Cheng Wai-man, Leung Yan-chuen, Wong Kam-tin, Ng Gam-yuen, and Tang Hin-sing, the series stars Donnie Yen, Joey Meng Yee-man, Eddy Ko Hung, Lau Chi-wing, Xiong Xinxin, and Cong Shan. Inspired by Bruce Lee's legendary Fist of Fury, the series expands the story of Chen Zhen into a 30-episode martial arts drama set in 1930s Shanghai. Available from ClassicKungFuMovies.com for collectors of hard-to-find Hong Kong martial arts DVDs.

STORY OVERVIEW

After tragedy forces him to leave his rural home, Chen Zhen arrives in Shanghai searching for a new beginning. His natural fighting ability soon draws him into a dangerous world of criminal gangs, political unrest, and foreign oppression before he finds a new path at the Jing Wu Athletic Association founded by Huo Yuanjia.

Under the guidance of the Jing Wu masters, Chen Zhen develops into a skilled martial artist and defender of the academy. As rival forces threaten the school and those closest to him, Chen is drawn into conflicts that test his loyalty, courage, and dedication to justice.

MARTIAL ARTS HIGHLIGHTS

Fist of Fury gives Donnie Yen an early opportunity to showcase the speed, athletic movement, kicking techniques, and hand-to-hand combat that became trademarks of his later Hong Kong martial arts performances. The series combines traditional Chinese martial arts with dramatic training sequences and extended fight scenes.

WHY COLLECTORS PICK IT

For collectors, Donnie Yen's portrayal of Chen Zhen is the central attraction. The series offers a different interpretation of the character made famous by Bruce Lee while adding considerably more time to Chen Zhen's personal history, his relationship with Jing Wu, and the people surrounding him.

HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE

Premiering in 1995, Fist of Fury brought the Chen Zhen character back to Hong Kong audiences through a long-form television production. With 30 episodes and a larger storyline than the earlier feature-film versions, the series became an important entry in the continuing screen history of one of Chinese martial arts cinema's most recognizable heroes.
