Bangkok Kung Fu (2011) Also Known As: Bangkok Assassins · Bangkok Kick · บางกอกกังฟู. Written and directed by Yuthlert Sippapak, this Thai martial arts film stars Mario Maurer and Arak Amornsupasiri. Four boys rescued from a criminal gang learn kung fu from a Shaolin master and later confront the violence that shaped their childhoods. This 2011 Thai kung fu DVD combines martial arts training, revenge, and stylized action.
The Story
Four boys are kidnapped from their families and forced into a life of street begging by a brutal gang. After suffering abuse and being left with different physical disabilities, the children find refuge with a Chinese Shaolin Kung Fu master who takes them in and teaches them martial arts. Under his guidance, they develop extraordinary fighting abilities while forming a bond that turns their unlikely group into a powerful martial arts team.
Years later, tragedy strikes when their beloved master is murdered. The former street children, now grown into highly trained fighters, come together once again to confront the people responsible. Their search for justice leads them into a dangerous conflict involving rival fighters, criminal forces, and a powerful Kung Fu clan. Their unique abilities and loyalty to their master become the weapons they rely on as they fight for revenge.
The Martial Arts
Bangkok Kung Fu combines traditional Shaolin Kung Fu concepts with stylized Thai action filmmaking. The four central fighters are defined by different physical abilities and fighting characteristics, allowing the film to build its martial arts action around teamwork, internal power, hand-to-hand combat, and revenge-driven confrontations. The film also incorporates heightened martial arts effects and choreographed combat designed around the characters' individual strengths.
Why Collectors Pick It
For collectors of international martial arts cinema, Bangkok Kung Fu is an unusual Thai entry that blends Kung Fu mythology, youth-oriented action, revenge themes, and fantasy-style martial arts abilities. The film features Mario Maurer, Arak Amornsupasiri, Athikit Pringprom, Visava Thaiyanont, and Jarinya Sirimongkolsakul, making it an interesting physical-media release for fans exploring martial arts movies outside the traditional Hong Kong catalog.
Historical Significance
Released in Thailand in 2011, Bangkok Kung Fu represents a different branch of Asian martial arts cinema from the classic Hong Kong Kung Fu films that dominated the genre during the 1970s and 1980s. Directed by Yuthlert Sippapak, the film combines Thai popular cinema with Shaolin Kung Fu themes and a revenge storyline centered on a group of fighters whose unusual abilities were shaped by their traumatic childhoods. The film was later distributed internationally under the title Bangkok Assassins.
International & Alternate Titles
Bangkok Kung Fu is also distributed as Bangkok Assassins and Bangkok Kick; its Thai title is บางกอกกังฟู.
Film & DVD Details
Important collector note: The photographed DVD packaging prints “Bangkok Revenge” as an A.K.A. However, established film references identify the movie as Bangkok Kung Fu, with Bangkok Assassins and Bangkok Kick as alternate titles. Bangkok Revenge is the title of a separate 2011 martial arts film, so it is preserved here only as packaging information rather than presented as a verified film A.K.A.
