ANGELA MAO: FROM KUNG FU QUEEN TO LIFE IN NEW YORK

Angela Mao was one of the most recognizable women in 1970s martial arts cinema. Known to fans as the Queen of Kung Fu and Lady Whirlwind, she built a career around speed, power, and real martial arts ability at a time when female action stars rarely received leading roles.

Born Mao Ching Ying in Taiwan, Angela began training for Peking Opera at a young age. She studied movement and performance before developing her martial arts skills, including Hapkido.
