Jimmy Wang Yu was one of the first major stars of Hong Kong martial arts cinema, helping establish the popularity of the genre during his years with Shaw Brothers Studio.
His breakthrough role in The One-Armed Swordsman (1967) made him one of the leading martial arts stars of the 1960s. The film became an important Shaw Brothers production and helped establish the one-armed swordsman as one of the memorable figures of classic Hong Kong swordplay cinema.
Known for his strong screen presence and physical performances, Wang Yu continued to appear in martial arts and wuxia films throughout the 1960s and 1970s. His filmography includes Master of the Flying Guillotine (1976) along with numerous other swordplay and kung fu productions.
