About ClassicKungFuMovies.com
42nd Street, New York City back in the early 80's
Real Kung Fu Culture Since the 80s
ClassicKungFuMovies.com wasn’t built from a business idea — it was built from a real obsession with kung fu movies that started when I was a kid and never left.
Where It All Started
At 8 years old, my mother took me to see Five Fingers of Death. That was it — I was hooked. Like a lot of us, kung fu movies weren’t just something you watched… they were something you felt.
I went on to study martial arts myself — Northern Praying Mantis, Pai Lum, Wing Chun — and even boxed in Brooklyn, New York. I lived this culture, not just watched it.
42nd Street & The Golden Era
Back in the early 80s, 42nd Street in New York City was the heart of kung fu movie culture. Packed theaters, double features, raw energy — this was where you experienced these films the way they were meant to be seen.
This wasn’t mainstream. This was real street culture. Kung fu movies were a major part of urban communities, influencing music, style, and mindset.
When The Movies Disappeared
Then one day… they were gone.
No more theaters. No way to find them. No internet. No stores. Nothing.
I remember wondering if I would ever see those films again. Years went by searching, and it felt like they just disappeared off the face of the earth.
The Turning Point
Years later, I got off the train in Manhattan and walked into a small shop that had nothing but kung fu movies. After years of nothing — there they were.
I started buying everything I could. At first a few… then more… then everything.
That moment changed everything.
From Collector to Supplying the Culture
Before the internet, this became a mail-order operation. Word spread fast — especially in urban communities where these films meant something deeper.
We weren’t just selling movies — we were bringing back something people thought was gone forever.
Over the years, we’ve supplied collectors, fans, and even legends like Biz Markie. That’s how deep this goes.
